Benefits of Puppet Forge organizations
As a registered Puppet Forge user, you can create or join a Forge organization to collaborate with other registered users. For example, if your company has an IT team that manages Puppet software across multiple global sites, you can create a Puppet Forge organization for that team.
Organizations provide the following advantages:
- If download reporting is enabled, the organization’s members can monitor the modules that are downloaded by the global team and view a dashboard to help ensure that the module estate remains current.
- If the Puppet Forge organization is linked to a Perforce customer account that has premium module entitlements, all members of the organization share access to the premium modules. For more information about premium modules, see Value of premium modules. However, if the administrator decides to limit access to premium modules, the administrator can monitor the dashboard to verify that only authorized users download the module.
- Forge users can develop and publish their own modules by using their personal Forge accounts. If several of those users belong to the same organization, the users can participate in joint activities to manage their developed modules. (Previously, several users had to share a single personal account for this type of collaboration.)
When you create a Forge organization, you become the administrator by default. Each Puppet Forge organization must have at least one administrator. For more information about the role of administrators, see How administrators manage organizations.
