Connect to Puppet

Connect your Puppet instances to the Perforce Unified Compliance platform to identify which VMs in your cloud environment are managed by Puppet, and bring unmanaged VMs under Puppet management.

To connect to Puppet, you require a Puppet license. For more information, contact our sales team.

You can set up the connection either before you start enrolling cloud VMs into Puppet or when prompted during enrollment.

Summary of the connection steps

To connect a Puppet instance, complete the following steps.

  1. Provision a host for the Puppet bridge
Choose a host in your environment that can reach PuppetDB and make outbound HTTPS connections.
    See Install the Puppet bridge.

  2. Install the Puppet bridge on the host
For details on where to obtain the Puppet bridge, see Install the Puppet bridge.

  3. Obtain a user token
In Puppet, generate a user token that enables the Perforce Unified Compliance platform to retrieve information from PuppetDB via the Puppet bridge. The associated user requires the permission: Nodes: View node data from PuppetDB.
See Obtain a Puppet user token.

  4. Connect the Puppet instance in the Perforce Unified Compliance platform
In the Perforce Unified Compliance platform, enter the Puppet instance URL and provide the user token to generate a configuration file for the Puppet bridge.
    See Connect a Puppet instance.

  5. Copy the configuration file to the Puppet bridge host

  6. Initialize the Puppet bridge
Run the Puppet bridge command-line tool on the host, using the configuration file, to complete setup.
    See Initialize the Puppet bridge.

  7. Verify the connection
In the Perforce Unified Compliance platform, the Puppet instance initially shows a status of Pending, and then Connected when the bridge is successfully initialized.
