Virtual machine discovery and management
You can view details of virtual machines (VMs) discovered in your cloud environment.
As a Puppet user, you can bring the cloud VMs under Puppet management. After enrollment, the VM runs the Puppet agent and appears as a node in Puppet.
By enrolling VMs in Puppet, you can manage your cloud workloads using the same configuration and compliance capabilities that govern your existing infrastructure.
You can do the following:
-
Discover VMs: View cloud VMs across your connected AWS and Azure accounts, with key information and indicators of the current Puppet management state for each VM.
-
Select and enroll VMs at scale: Select one or multiple unmanaged VMs and enroll them to a connected Puppet instance.

Integration with Puppet
To enable you to enroll virtual machines and review their Puppet management status, you can connect one or more of your Puppet instances. This connection requires the following key elements:
-
Puppet bridge: A lightweight service installed on a host machine for each instance. The Puppet bridge establishes a secure connection to the Puppet instance. This connection provides access to the Puppet data required to enroll VMs to that instance.
-
Puppet identity: A user token scopes activity to each connected Puppet instance.
For details, see Connect to Puppet.
