Puppet Edge

The Puppet Edge add-on is designed to help Puppet Enterprise (PE) and Puppet Enterprise Advanced (PEA) users manage more devices on their network and provides access to the following capabilities:

  • Playbook Runner premium module: From the PE console, you can use Playbook Runner to run the following newly added tasks:

    • Run Ansible® playbook
    • Run Ansible® ad-hoc command
  • EdgeOps premium module: Provides tools for managing network devices with Puppet Enterprise.

For Puppet Enterprise Advanced customers, the Edge add-on includes access to the following additional capabilities:

  • Advanced Orchestration workflows on the PE console: Workflows are designed to help simplify development and execution of IT operations automation.

  • Infra Assistant: code assist: Support for code generation enabling you to use AI to generate content to manage your devices

    Infra Assistant: code assist is not turned on by default; it is an opt in feature.

After you’ve installed a new license that includes the Puppet Edge entitlement, restarting some of the PE services is necessary for the entitlement to be picked up:

  • Restart the pe-plan-runner service:

    systemctl restart pe-puppetserver pe-orchestration-services pe-bolt-server pe-plan-runner pe-console-services

  • Restart the pe-plan-runner service (still the default):

    systemctl restart pe-puppetserver pe-orchestration-services pe-bolt-server pe-console-services

  • Restart on any running compilers connected to the PE primary:

    systemctl restart pe-puppetserver
